The content technology landscape is evolving and expanding rapidly. Today, one technology is not enough to handle all of your content operations. Content teams now need a content stack—a group of technologies to power everything from your writing and editing to your content management, workflow, and quality assurance.
To help you sort through the complex and constantly changing content technology landscape, Content Science has created an infographic that breaks down the major categories of content technology and highlights the top technologies within each category. We debuted the infographic in 2021 and updated and expanded it for 2022.
The infographic is based on responses to Content Science’s Content Operations Assessment, our client work, and a review of the content technology landscape in 2022. The categories are:
Since we launched the infographic last year, certain trends have emerged. The area of AI-generated content in particular is maturing at a rapid clip. This year we are listing 17 different AI tools that either offer AI-powered writing, image, or video creation. Due to more AI tools as well as growth in content as a service companies, the number of tools we are listing in the Content Creation category has tripled since last year. Other areas where we are seeing growth include Content Standards + Style, Content Workflow, and Content Management + Deployment.
We included a total of 166 technologies in 2022 and sought to represent a spectrum of established and emerging solutions.
