As a content designer, you’ll need a deep understanding of content design and strategy, as well as experience carrying out strategy. Content designers are relentlessly user-focused, always advocating for the user and balancing this against business priorities. You will be able to confidently present and articulate your work to stakeholders in various formats and manage those working relationships effectively.

How To Become a Content Designer

Typically, becoming a content designer requires a four-year degree in a relevant field such as communications, design, journalism, marketing, or English.  To show employers that you’ll be able to be hands-on from the get-go, consider completing a relevant course, such as our Content Design + UX Writing certification.

Experience with content in a related industry will also be helpful. If you are already working in a content role, look for opportunities to work more closely with design and development teams. Attend relevant presentations and meetings led by those teams and learn as much as you can about the design process.

As a content designer, you may eventually shift into a leadership role, managing other content designers, or move into product management, with more influence over the product or solution you’re building.
